Charmed by Cardamom: Meet This Featured Ingredient in Our “Be You” Tea
– Intro by Tera Warner; article by Lisa Pinker
Through our Body Enlightenment programs, and in honor of our recently released BE Beauty 30-Day Natural Beauty Makeover, we’ve decided to release a whole new “flavor” of our herbal “tea” blends. I say “tea” because they don’t actually contain any tea, but are combinations of herbal, medicinal and aromatic plants that we combine to create a lovely infusion. These infusions can be enjoyed to help with cravings and address other health and well-ness conditions.
The benefits and properties of the specific plants we use can be studied more extensively in our Herbal Talks series. Over the coming weeks and months we’ll be taking the opportunity to feature some of our favorite plants and why we’ve included them in our herbal blends. We’re starting with cardamom, which we’ve included as an aromatic addition to our soon to be released “Be You” Tea. This article has been contributed by Lisa Pinker, a participant in our BE Beauty 30-Day Natural Beauty Makeover. Enjoy! We think you’ll be charmed by cardamom and all this frisky spice has to offer!
Hooking Up With Herbs for Beauty
I always thought that I looked pretty young for my age. Boy, was I wrong! I was recently in the dressing room at the mall, when I just happened to look at my face in the dressing room mirror. I looked at my face and my body and thought to myself, “you are really aging”. I never realized I had dark circles under my eyes. Pretty depressing I must say! I immediately went home and went on the computer only to find this beauty program. I signed up immediately and I cannot wait to see the results.
To prepare for this beauty makeover, I have already begun to take baby steps to improve my health and wellness. After the dreaded shopping trip, I have stopped having my morning cup of black tea with cream and sugar. I realize that I can replace this with other beauty teas. I have already done some research on beauty teas and stumbled upon different herbs that are used in these teas. I found some of the medicinal properties of cardamom pretty interesting and I thought I would share them with you.
The Medicinal Properties of Cardamom Revealed
Cardamom, a member of the Ginger family is one of the world’s most ancient spices. It comes from the seeds of a ginger-like plant. This flavorable spice does more than add flavor to various dishes. It also has many health benefits such as improving digestion and increasing one’s metabolism. Even though the Cardamon Spice originally comes from India other types exist in other areas such as Scandinavia. It works well in herbal infusions and teas. The small black seeds of the Cardamom are where the aroma comes from. They are contained within the pod.
Some of the health benefits of Cardamom are:
- It acts as a detoxifer especially from coffee usage
- Helps with excessive stomach acid
- It sweetens the breath
- Cleanses the Kidneys and Bladder
- Helps with lung congestion
- Great for indigestion, nausea, vomiting
- It is believed to lower heart disease as well as lower cholesterol.
- It can be used as a laxative, to prevent stomach pain, griping and gas!
- the aroma is known to uplift and invigorate and assist with digestion and nausea
- It has aphrodisiac properties!
Two Ways to Prepare Cardamom
You can use the pod whole or remove the seeds and discard the pod. Since Cardamom is one of the strongest spices, normally people use the whole pod in a majority of dishes as well as in making teas.
Aside from the aromatic cooking qualities and health benefits, Cardamom is known for its nutritional benefits. It contains a high vitamin and mineral content such as Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, and Folate. With its no sugar and low calorie content, this is a good spice to use on a regular basis.
We’ve included cardamom in our upcoming Be You Tea blend which is meant to accompany the 30-Day Natural beauty makeover program, but it’s also a perfect morning cocktail of herbal and medicinal ingredients that will enhance beauty, uplift, invigorate and nourish the body without the digestive weight of food in the belly! Stay tuned as we will be releasing our Be You Tea in the very near future.
